TO AN OLD CLOCK, by
First Line: Why do you always stand there
Last Line: Or a man go -- unhanged?
Subject(s): Clocks; Time

Why do you always stand there
fly-freckled and glassy-eyed,
staring and staring at me,
tapping your dusty old foot --
tapping, tapping, tapping tapping,
and pointing your paralytic fingers
as if you were about to tell a great secret?

Fool! and false prophet!
Parrot-tongued infidel!
Tin-hearted liar!
Think that for want of you and your rusty old bugle
this hungry world would miss a meal
or a man go -- unhanged?
