SONG OF THE COMANCHE COUNTRY, by NEVILLE PEACE First Line: I do not know how it is Last Line: Forget their caravans to listen. Subject(s): Oklahoma | ||||||||
I do not know how it is In California, Or Connecticut, Or Illinois; But here, where the lumps of hills Squat low and close like camps of Indian bands, The stars look down, carefully at first, A few at a time ... Then all at once the sky is full of stars Running over the edges. The dark land...and the sand hills That black-jacks love the touch of, Forget their caravans to listen. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LINES WRITTEN IN DEJECTION, OKLAHOMA by GREGORY ORR DRIVING IN OKLAHOMA by CARTER REVARD A TRIBUTE TO WILL ROGERS AND WILEY POST by ROSETTA THORSON BEACHLER OKLAHOMA by DAISY LEMON COLDIRON LAST ECSTASY by ALETHA CALDWELL CONNER OKLAHOMA by ELIZABETH WILLIAMS COSGROVE THE COAST OF OKLAHOMA by CHRIS FORHAN WIND SONG; OKLAHOMA ANNIVERSARY, APRIL 22 by ZOE AGNES STRATTON TILGHMAN |
