MY DESIRE, by MARY JESSIE PEARCE First Line: I'd like to have a little house Last Line: And hope 'twould guide you there. Subject(s): Desire; Flowers; Light; Roses | ||||||||
I'd like to have a little house Set in a little yard, A picket fence surrounding it And tall trees near to guard. I'd plant red roses at the door And paint the shutters green, Grow jonquils 'long the garden path With tulips in between. I'd keep the latchstring always out, The kettle always on, For there friends would be welcome At midnight or at dawn. I'd never draw the curtains But in the window bare, I'd place a cheery, yellow light And hope 'twould guide you there. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE WHISPER OF THE ROSE by EDMUND JOHN ARMSTRONG THE WISDOM OF THE ROSE by ELSA BARKER LOVE PLANTED A ROSE by KATHARINE LEE BATES ROSES; A VILANELLE by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON THE PAINTER ON SILK by AMY LOWELL VARIATIONS: 17 by CONRAD AIKEN WORDS IN A CERTAIN APPROPRIATE MODE by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
