Last Line: Your presence came the hour to share.
Subject(s): Absence; Separation; Isolation

The chimes from the gray stone church
Proclaimed the Sabbath morning;
Inside was a reverent, wordless peace;
The sun sprayed golden rays
Across the organ pipes,
Infusing a warm light into stained panes.
Tender, throbbing music filled the chapel;
Into the stillness came a pause, a prayer.
It would have been complete
Had you been there.

Your chair was empty,
Yet I saw your face etched
With beauty's own consecration;
I heard your voice praising
God and His infinite love --
Though you were not there,
Your presence came the hour to share.
