SUNSET, by EMMET PENDLETON First Line: The entire western sky is all ablaze Last Line: The ending day of all may plan to bring! Alternate Author Name(s): Pendleton, Robert Emmet Subject(s): Evening; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
The entire western sky is all ablaze With pyrotechnics, marvelously grand, That flare up brightly in a distant land. The final sparkle of the sun's last rays. The gorgeousness of colorings amaze. Some cloud-drifts catch the gleams and make a strand Of precious gems to richly grace the band Of gold that parts the amethyst of haze. The eventide is here. The closing day Is marked with splendency of nature's store, Regards befitting well the greatest thing. There comes from this magnificent display Of brilliance cause to contemplate -- what more The ending day of all may plan to bring! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE |
