AWAKENING, by DOROTHY HOLLOWAY PFLAGER First Line: With loving hands, a chiffon veil they bound Last Line: But feast on heights and depths forevermore. Subject(s): Beauty | ||||||||
With loving hands, a chiffon veil they bound Around my eyes; I dimly saw the things That men called beauty and I never found The ugliness of which the realist sings. With soft harmonious light, in monotone Life passed me by; I vaguely lived, until One day, oh God, I found myself alone. In one fell swoop, as children sometimes will I ripped the veil, and blinded by the light Of beauty, chaos, passion, terror, hope, I stood struck dumb at life's wide open door. Shielding my eyes, I tripped, and with delight I rose alone; I found I need not grope But feast on heights and depths forevermore. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN DIVINELY SUPERFLUOUS BEAUTY by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE BEAUTY OF THINGS by ROBINSON JEFFERS HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS LIFE FROM THE LIFELESS by ROBINSON JEFFERS REARMAMENT by ROBINSON JEFFERS SHANE ONEILLS CAIRN by ROBINSON JEFFERS INDIFFERENCE? by DOROTHY HOLLOWAY PFLAGER |
