JANGLING JINGLES, by WILLIAM A. PHELON First Line: We bet on a champion boxer-- Last Line: And hyrantoh, he's running yet! Subject(s): Boxing & Boxers; Gambling; Horse Racing; Wrestling And Wrestlers; Wagering; Betting | |||
WE BET on a champion boxer We had to give seven to one The challenger swung like a wild man, And the champion lit on his bun! We bet on a big, burly wrestler They said he was framed up to win It was just one fall in six minutes, He lost with a scandalous grin! We bet on a wonderful ball club And, of course, in the course of events, Our club and our money were ruined, By a liner right over the fence! We bet on a horse named Hydrant A long shot, a marvelous bet The favorite won in a canter, And Hyrantoh, he's running yet! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TEN MILLS: IN DIVES' DIVE by ROBERT FROST LONGSHOT BLUES by KENNETH FEARING PLAIN LANGUAGE FROM TRUTHFUL JAMES by FRANCIS BRET HARTE THE CASE OF ALBERT IRVING WILLIAMSON by FRANKLIN PIERCE ADAMS THE PIKER'S RUBAIYAT by FRANKLIN PIERCE ADAMS A FOOL THERE WAS by WILLIAM A.
