SHAPES AND SHADOWS, by
First Line: We are but shapes and shadows
Last Line: But the screen remains unchanged!
Subject(s): Death; Earth; Life; Shadows; Time; Dead, The; World

WE ARE but shapes and shadows,
And the shadows come and go,
Projected briefly on the screen,
By the master of the show.
We are but shapes and shadows,
With just a transient name—
Forgotten soon, while others move
Amid the shadowy game.
Before us, countless shadows
Have risen, stepped and ranged
Upon the screen—then vanished—
But the screen remains unchanged!
