First Line: A cloud of bombers, riding high
Last Line: Crusading birds in summer sky.
Subject(s): Aviation & Aviators; Sky; Wings

A CLOUD of Bombers, riding high,
Sun-kiss'd, stream-lined, in brave array,
Crusading birds in Summer sky,

A gallant sight as they go by
Across bright, brilliant, blue high-way,
A cloud of Bombers, riding high.

A crew each carries, Chivalry
Itself incarnate, forth to fray. ...
Crusading birds in Summer sky,

Who, self-less, prove and typify
True sacrifice, who, blest, obey—
A cloud of Bombers, riding high—

Resistless call, contentedly
Glance landwards, take calm, swift survey—
Crusading birds in Summer sky—

Of their lov'd England as they fly
Forth into Fate's fell jaws, portray—
A cloud of Bombers riding high—

Summit of known nobility
And spiritual strength in common clay:
Crusading birds in Summer sky,

Inspired, informed with constancy
To hold in faith to firm essay,
A cloud of Bombers, riding high,

Proud Band of Brothers, strong to die
If need should come, prepared to pay—
Crusading birds in Summer sky—

The final price, who dare descry
Death as if Death stood holiday
To cloud of Bombers, riding high,
Crusading birds in Summer sky.
