THE DREAMER, by OLIVE ANN PIXLEY First Line: A weaver wove a rug upon his loom Last Line: And that his work was worthy of a king! Subject(s): Weavers And Weaving | ||||||||
A weaver wove a rug upon his loom, -- A common rug, for common feet to wear. But as he wrought, his thoughts were otherwhere Than in the dreary dimness of that room. His eyes beheld far fields of flowers abloom, And light, and colors rich beyond compare. He was a dreamer, and he did not care That days were endless, -- that he dwelt in gloom. Yet, ever as he dreamed, the shuttle flew; But since the thread was lifeless in his hands, He still supposed he wrought a simple thing. His eyes were on the stars. He never knew That all his dreams were shining through the strands, And that his work was worthy of a king! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A SONG OF HANDICRAFTS by ANNIE MATHESON THE BASKET-MAKER by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK THE COSMIC FABRIC by YAKOV POLONSKY THE WEAVER'S SONG by BRYAN WALLER PROCTER THE BUILDING OF THE NEST by MARGARET ELIZABETH MUNSON SANGSTER THE LACE-WEAVERS; FROM YRIARTE by JOHN GODFREY SAXE WEAVERS ALL by EMILY M.
