FINE FEATHERS, by HENRY T. PRAED First Line: Cocky, self-pleased, barnyard king Last Line: And barnyard glories never last. Subject(s): Birds; Feathers; Wings | ||||||||
Cocky, self-pleased, barnyard king, With your brilliant comb and tail, A ruler with a sceptered wing, Example of the dominant male; Call your harem, let them view Their fine lord, O, it is great To strut around a cock like you, Barnyard prince and potentate. O, once my comb was red as yours, My plumes as brilliant; but now see, My comb is pecked, and hens by scores Have robbed me of my plumage; we All have our days to strut and rule, But this beware: life changes fast, Today's king is tomorrow's fool, And barnyard glories never last. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ESTATE SALE: THE SCRABBLE GAME OF A DEAD WOMAN by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE FREED FROM ANOTHER CONTEXT by ELEANOR WILNER THE BIRD IN THE LAUREL'S SONG by ELEANOR WILNER THE LITERAL = THE ABSTRACT: A DEMONSTRATION by ELEANOR WILNER |
