OCTOBER, by HELEN PRICE First Line: Fill my lungs with october wind Last Line: In a heart too full for singing! Subject(s): Autumn; Leaves; October; Seasons; Wind; Fall | ||||||||
Fill my lungs with October wind, Dazzle my eyes with moon, Sprinkle my path with the dust of stars Whisper a thread of tune. Bind me about with the spell of night, Tangle my heart with the tips of trees, How shall I know that the dead leaves fall At the touch of the frosty breeze? What shall it matter if winter comes And slow days drag, unending? What shall I care for the frozen death That the bitter winds are sending? Always the spell of the autumn moon Blinds to the long months' turning, Always the ache of October's joy Blends into April's yearning. Oh, that a poem, a song, a cry Could break from my silence, bringing A breath, release, to the thrill compressed In a heart too full for singing! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OUR AUTUMN by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN AN AUTUMN JOY by GEORGE ARNOLD A LEAF FALLS by MARION LOUISE BLISS THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD A LETTER IN OCTOBER by TED KOOSER AUTUMN EVENING by DAVID LEHMAN |
