REMEMBERING, by ANNA PRIESTLEY First Line: I remember a little inn Last Line: Only beauty's ghost? Subject(s): Hotels; Memory; Moon; Spring; Inns; Innskeepers; Motels; Boarding Houses | ||||||||
I remember a little inn Far out from town, And the peace of a country evening Settling down. I remember a round-cheeked moon Like a jolly host, And a white-plumed pear tree, turning To a lovely ghost. I remember a log was thrown On the slumbering fire And the shadows fled to the corners As the flames leaped higher. I remember the silver gleamed In the candle light And the world was very far away That sweet spring night. If I return to the little inn, Shall I find you there, Waiting before the fireplace In that deep old chair? Will you join me at the table We liked the most, Or shall I find at the little inn Only Beauty's ghost? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LOOKING FOR THE GULF MOTEL by RICHARD BLANCO WHAT THE MAGDALENE SAW by TIMOTHY LIU REMOVED AT THE MOMENT OF PERFECTION by TIMOTHY LIU MARRY AT A HOTEL, ANNUL ?ÇÖEM by HARRYETTE MULLEN THE KEEPER OF THE DEAD HOTEL by AGHA SHAHID ALI IN GEORGETOWN; HOLIDAY INN, WASHINGTON, D.C. by HAYDEN CARRUTH OUTSIDE ROOM SIX by LYNN EMANUEL ON THE ROAD by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR |
