DEMOCRITUS AND HERACLITUS, by                     Poet's Biography
First Line: Democritus, dear droll, revisit earth
Last Line: Hurt, can I laugh? And honest, need I cry?
Subject(s): Democritus (460-370 B.c.); Heraclitus (540-480 B.c.); Philosophy & Philosophers

Democritus, dear droll, revisit Earth,
And with our follies glut thy heightened mirth.
Sad Heraclitus, serious wretch, return,
In louder grief our greater crimes to mourn.
Between you both I unconcerned stand by:
Hurt, can I laugh? and honest, need I cry?
