HALLOWEEN, by ARTHUR GLYN PRYS-JONES Poet's Biography First Line: On bala lake the wind is high Last Line: On bala lake. Subject(s): Mortality; Shadows; Wales; Welshmen; Welshwomen | ||||||||
ON Bala Lake the wind is high, And loud the screaming marsh-fowl cry: Around her shores grey waters moan, And barren branches shake and groan Beneath the stark, tumultuous sky; While whispering voices sob and sigh, And shadows lurk by tree and stone On Bala Lake. It is not meet that mortal eye Should strive to see, nor wonder why Old Aran trembles on her throne: Enough to hear the monotone Of wind-swept waters rolling by On Bala Lake. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ANTICHRIST, OR THE REUNION OF CHRISTENDOM; AN ODE by GILBERT KEITH CHESTERTON WALES VISITATION by ALLEN GINSBERG WELSH INCIDENT by ROBERT RANKE GRAVES THE BARD; A PINDARIC ODE by THOMAS GRAY THE TRIUMPHS OF OWEN: A FRAGMENT by THOMAS GRAY WELSH LANDSCAPE by RONALD STUART THOMAS A BALLAD OF GLYNDWR'S RISING by ARTHUR GLYN PRYS-JONES A HYMN FOR ST.
