GIFTS AND SINS, by EDNA EADES PURYEAR First Line: The simplest things are best Last Line: These are the sins of men. Subject(s): Gifts & Giving; Sin | ||||||||
The simplest things are best For peace of mind, for rest. A cottage small, a lovely tree, A dog, some books, friends for tea. Plain foods, fresh air for health, A field, a brook are wealth! Sunrise, sunsets, the sea, Clouds in the sky, a soaring bird, Moonlight, are free. These are some gifts of God. Creeds that have killed the Christ In Christianity, Greed, avarice, revenge, Vice, cowardice, and strife: The things that cripple life Are crime. Help, with a sparing hand, Malicious gossip fanned, Excesses to intemperance, Intolerance: These are the sins of men. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SEVEN STREAMS OF NEVIS by GALWAY KINNELL CHANEL NO. 5 by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR BROTHERS: 4.
