HUMMINGBIRD, by JESS CAMPBELL RAE First Line: On fairy wing Last Line: The darling sprite! Subject(s): Hummingbirds | ||||||||
On fairy wing Enchanting thing; In flower cup For magic sup, Or poised in play On rainbow spray -- Then suddenly And whizzingly, With vivid flash Elusive dash To sweet retreat, Wee, lichened, neat; Exquisite place Of down and lace, A cradle hung For tiny young. He's lived who's seen This midget's sheen, And watched him brave Fierce, hawklike knave; Or nicely fluff His gleaming ruff In raindrop pool On roseleaf cool.
