HUNTIN' WIT' OL' ROVER, by J. FARLEY RAGLAND First Line: When things git too distressin' Last Line: Dan huntin' in de lowgrouds wit' ol' rover. Subject(s): Animals; Dogs; Hunting; Hunters | ||||||||
When things git too distressin' An' my cross gits hard ter cair' When folks I owes start pressin' An' my pocket book gits bare, When I gits tired o' guessin' How de budgit gwine ter fare -- I goes ter huntin' rabbits wit' Ol' Rover. When Mandy starts ter fussin' 'Cause de ol hawg name o' "Toots", Is rootin' an' a mussin' In her bed o' flower shoots, Instead o' me a cussin' I jes' goes and gits mer boots -- An' starts out fer de lowground wit' Ol' Rover. Ain't no canine in dis valley Dat kin beat dis dog o' mine, I gits tired o' keepin' tally Uv de rabbits dat she find; Ain't no use ter dilly dally When dat puppy starts ter whine -- Dare'll be shootin' in de lowgrounds wit' Ol Rover. Eveybody has a blow-off Fer dare sentimental steam, Sum folks lak ter strut an' show-off Others lak ter mope an' dream; But fer makin' troubles go-off Dares ter me no grander scheme -- Dan huntin' in de lowgrouds wit' Ol' Rover. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE LAMENT OF QUARRY by LEONIE ADAMS KILLDEER by KENNETH SLADE ALLING THE YOUNG FOWLER THAT MISTOOK HIS GAME by PHILIP AYRES A POEM ABOUT THE HOUNDS AND THE HARES by LISEL MUELLER SONNET: 146 by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE |
