THE HALF-WAY HOUSE, by NAN TERRELL REED First Line: Just around the bend of winter Last Line: In the half-way house of spring. Subject(s): Nature; Seasons; Spring | ||||||||
Just around the bend of Winter, Where you hear the robins sing; Just before you get to Summer Is the Half-way House of Spring. There you see the grass grow greener Than it was the day before; There you watch the leaves and blossoms Open out a little more. And the weather isn't sultry, And it isn't very cold, And the sunshine on the garden Is of eighteen-carat gold. It's a House that lovers cherish; It's a place where dreamers dream; It's an atmosphere where writers Find Romance in every stream. But it harbors only transients, Spring will never let you stay, And she points the road to Summer As she hurries you away. Oh! how often we would linger Where we hear the robins sing, Just around the bend from Winter, In the Half-way House of Spring. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SPRING LEMONADE by TONY HOAGLAND A SPRING SONG by LYMAN WHITNEY ALLEN SPRING'S RETURN by GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD SPRING FLOODS by MAURICE BARING SPRING IN WINTER by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES SPRING ON THE PRAIRIE by HERBERT BATES THE FARMER'S BOY: SPRING by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD |
