MUTINY, by HEINZ RETTIG First Line: The night was stilled, the shadows filled Last Line: A-rockin' like a rocker. Subject(s): Mutiny; Night; Sailing & Sailors; Bedtime | ||||||||
The night was stilled, the shadows filled With ghostly, threatnin' ruins; The decks a-vamped, the cabins stamped, With print o' evil doin's. An' sure it be, your eyes 'ud see, The crew in bloody battle; A-sticking knives in human lives, Like a butcher slaughtering cattle. But down the hatch you clearly catch, A glimpse o' Davey's locker; No moment dull, with the sinkin' hull A-rockin' like a rocker. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN THE GODS OF THE COPYBOOK HEADINGS by RUDYARD KIPLING |
