SUMMER STORM, by JANE RICHTER First Line: Swiftly rush the storm clouds Last Line: Silence, sunlight glinting on wet roof-tops. Subject(s): Clouds; Rain; Storms; Summer | ||||||||
Swiftly rush the storm clouds, Flinging shapes of darkness Down the summer sky. Now like wheels they churn the running sky, Tear blue streamers from the east, And hurl them in the west. Strong, the wind gusts bend branches, Stir the poplar leaves, Shaking them in a silver sheen. Faster the wind gusts drive the laden air, Spilling rain in silver coins To glisten on black streets. Fierce bright drops Beat a rhythm ever louder On tautly stretched awnings. But impercetibly the rain ceases. Silence, sunlight glinting on wet roof-tops. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE ADVANCE OF SUMMER by MARY KINZIE THE SUMMER IMAGE by LEONIE ADAMS CANOEBIAL BLISS by JOSEPH ASHBY-STERRY THE END OF SUMMER by HENRY MEADE BLAND THE FARMER'S BOY: SUMMER by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD SONNET: 14.
