REPOSE, by IONE MORRISON RIDER First Line: I had forgot there was so much of peace Last Line: Wearing a jeweled hour as a crown. Subject(s): Peace | ||||||||
I had forgot there was so much of peace In pausing by the road beneath a tree. The wind walks by, and brings a sure release From all things slight and meaningless. To be Is suddenly enough. I had not known Before, when all concerned with common needs -- The daily round of things, absorbing grown Beyond desert -- that flowering wayside weeds Could be so exquisite. A thousand hands Extend a gracious welcome from the tree Beneath whose arms I weave anew the strands Of sadly worn and frayed tranquillity. Now closer move the soothing steps of slow Pervasive peace. Stillness settles down, Enfolds me like a cloak...Abroad I go Wearing a jeweled hour as a crown. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOW MANY NIGHTS by GALWAY KINNELL THE MOTTO by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON THE TRUE BEATITUDE by RUPERT BROOKE MAKING PEACE by DENISE LEVERTOV TWO SONGS OF PEACE: 1 by YEHUDA AMICHAI TWO SONGS OF PEACE: 2 by YEHUDA AMICHAI PILGRIMAGE by IONE MORRISON RIDER |
