TULIPS, by LAURA A. RIDLEY First Line: I think that tulips came to me in may Last Line: Should also make so dark a thing as death. Subject(s): Tulips | ||||||||
I think that tulips came to me in May Because I needed them -- they were so gay; So very gay, their petals were so bright, They'd fill the dullest mortal with delight. And every morning as I passed them by, I marvelled at their beauty, wondered why A God who made such lovely things as these Who put the tender blossoms in the trees, Who made the lily and the baby's breath, Should also make so dark a thing as death. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TULIPS AND ADDRESSES by EDWARD FIELD A YELLOW YULIP by PHILIP LEVINE PORTRAIT SONNETS: 3 by HENRY BELLAMANN TULIPS by FRANCES HALLEY BROCKETT TULIP BLOOMS by BARBARA RUTH COLLINS ON A MARCH MORNING by THOMAS AUGUSTINE DALY TO A BED OF TULIPS by ROBERT HERRICK |
