TEMPEST NIGHT, by JOEL T. ROGERS First Line: Wind in the void, where the white stars shake Last Line: And the night hangs heavily years and years? Subject(s): Sea; Sea Voyages; Storms; Weather; Wind; Ocean | ||||||||
WIND in the void, where the white stars shake, And the storm scud shivers across the moon, There is fire, there is flame, there is storm in the sky! Beloved, your eyes are half awake To the murmuring music of an old tune, The voice of sorrow long gone by; Sorrow long gone, but now more near Than the measureless tumult of your heart. Even this hour of music seems A withered woe, and dry, and sere When the violins cease, and the dancers part, And the voices vanish like frail dreams. There is fire, there is flame, there is storm in the night! The shore is stounded by surge and surge, And the dark arms of the stalwart tides. Hear to the shadow and sound of delight; The music of laughter and whispers verge, They are one, they are naught, and naught abides. Beloved, your eyes are half awake Do you watch the flame and storm on the sea, And the black disaster which nears and nears Till the poplars bend, and the cedars break, And the music hushes silently, And the night hangs heavily years and years? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HALL OF OCEAN LIFE by JOHN HOLLANDER JULY FOURTH BY THE OCEAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS BOATS IN A FOG by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE FIGUREHEAD by LEONIE ADAMS FALLING STAR by JOEL T.
