THOUGHT IN WHITE WINTER, by MARGUERITE E. ROSEBERY First Line: The mountains high are white with snow Last Line: For human pity's sake. Subject(s): Cold; Rocky Mountain Range; Snow; White (color); Winter | ||||||||
The mountains high are white with snow, Each pine a drooping plume, And every dark recess, it seems, The stars and moon illume. And still, this beauty, rare, and sweet That gives my heart delight For others wears the face of death Or suffering's chilling blight. As beauty-fed I speed along Through rows of fairy pines, By Rocky Mountain's castle towers Where magic moonlight shines, I know in town for me there waits A home that love has made Of star lit eyes, a cozy hearth, A lamp with silken shade. And yet, into my heart there creeps A little crying ache That makes a tear fall in my heart For human pity's sake. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LOOKING EAST IN THE WINTER by JOHN HOLLANDER WINTER DISTANCES by FANNY HOWE WINTER FORECAST by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN AT WINTER'S EDGE by JUDY JORDAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 34 by JAMES JOYCE I WOULD OUTRUN DEATH by MARGUERITE E.
