SEVEN VIALS HOLD THY WRATH, by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI Poet Analysis Poet's Biography Last Line: Behold its shadow in the deed he did Alternate Author Name(s): Alleyne, Ellen; Rossetti, Christina Subject(s): Anger; Worship; Prayer | ||||||||
Seven vials hold Thy wrath: but what can hold Thy mercy save Thine own Infinitude, Boundlessly overflowing with all good. All lovingkindness, all delights untold? Thy Love, of each created love the mould; Thyself, of all the empty plenitude; Heard of at Ephrata, found in the Wood, For ever One, the Same, and Manifold. Lord, give us grace to tremble with that dove Which Ark - bound winged its solitary way And overpast the Deluge in a day. Whom Noah's hand pulled in and comforted: For we who much more hang upon Thy Love Behold its shadow in the deed he did. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN LISTEN, LORD: A PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON A PRAYER FOR THE FUTURE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) DIFFERENT WAYS TO PRAY by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAYER DURING A TIME MY SON IS HAVING SEIZURES by SHARON OLDS WE WHO PRAYED AND WEPT by WENDELL BERRY PRAYERS AND SAYINGS OF THE MAD FARMER by WENDELL BERRY IT IS FINISHED' by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI ITALIA, IO TI SALUTO!' by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI THE HEART KNOWETH ITS OWN BITTERNESS' (2) by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI |
