THY LILIES DRINK THE DEW, by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI Poet Analysis Poet's Biography Last Line: Spotless and sweet, thy lamb to follow thee Alternate Author Name(s): Alleyne, Ellen; Rossetti, Christina Subject(s): Lilies; Lambs; God | ||||||||
Thy lilies drink the dew. Thy lambs the rill, and I will drink them too; For those in purity And innocence are types, dear Lord, of Thee. The fragrant lily flower Bows and fulfils Thy Will its lifelong hour; The lamb at rest and play Fulfils Thy Will in gladness all the day; They leave to-morrow's cares Until the morrow, what it brings it bears. And I, Lord, would be such; Not high or great or anxious over-much, But pure and temperate, Earnest to do Thy Will betimes and late. Fragrant with love and praise And innocence thro' all my appointed days; Thy lily I would be, Spotless and sweet, Thy lamb to follow Thee. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE MOUNTAIN IS STRIPPED by DAVID IGNATOW AS CLOSE AS BREATHING by MARK JARMAN UNHOLY SONNET 1 by MARK JARMAN UNHOLY SONNET 13 by MARK JARMAN BIRTH-DUES by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE SILENT SHEPHERDS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GOING TO THE HORSE FLATS by ROBINSON JEFFERS IT IS FINISHED' by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI ITALIA, IO TI SALUTO!' by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI THE HEART KNOWETH ITS OWN BITTERNESS' (2) by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI |
