A RIBBON IN MY HAIR, by BELLE RUSH First Line: I thought that hope was dead; that life would be Last Line: I stayed to twine a ribbon in my hair. Subject(s): Hope; Optimism | ||||||||
I thought that hope was dead; that life would be A mere existence, dull montony. That living without you I should not care How drab I looked, or if none thought me fair. But yesterday I saw redbud in bloom, A pale Sweet William nodding at my feet; I caught a whiff of the wild plum's perfume, And suddenly I knew that life was sweet. And so, before I went down to the gate, To dream of you, who will no more be there, Although I knew that it was getting late, I stayed to twine a ribbon in my hair. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SONNET by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON SPRING FLOODS by MAURICE BARING SONNET: 9.
