NO AUTUMN SUN, by AMY REQUA RUSSELL First Line: Darkened and warm, the sacramento lies Last Line: Lays quiet hands upon this fruitful ground. Subject(s): Autumn; Seasons; Fall | ||||||||
Darkened and warm, the Sacramento lies; The dusky orchard lands and stubbled fields, In this half-light which dimly magnifies, Sleep with the fertile pulse the valley yields Even in rest. Silo, and barn, and shed Loom vast and black, where stored are fruits and grains. The harvest moon, immense, blood-orange red, Fills half the sky and mellows all the plains. Drowsy with life the day has never known, Peaceful with praise no Autumn sun commands, This is a power of night which claims its own -- The groves and farms, the broad, delivered lands; While country silence, simple and profound, Lays quiet hands upon this fruitful ground. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OUR AUTUMN by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN AN AUTUMN JOY by GEORGE ARNOLD A LEAF FALLS by MARION LOUISE BLISS THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD A LETTER IN OCTOBER by TED KOOSER AUTUMN EVENING by DAVID LEHMAN EVERYTHING THAT ACTS IS ACTUAL by DENISE LEVERTOV |
