"And as a traveler goes," alert to spy
What lands beyond the great black hill may lie,
So when the bailiff comes with summons curt,
May I make bold his writ to controvert
And all the terror of his touch defy.
For he that finds no fear in voids gone by
Finds none in drawing to the shadows nigh,
Puts on his faith as in stout armor girt,
And as a traveler goes.

From inn to inn -- what matters how or why?
An inn can have no long-abiding tie.
When signalled one old lodging to desert,
The reasoned tenant, undismayed, unhurt,
Scans the new road ahead with curious eye,
And as a traveler -- goes.
