"And as a traveler goes," alert to spy What lands beyond the great black hill may lie, So when the bailiff comes with summons curt, May I make bold his writ to controvert And all the terror of his touch defy. For he that finds no fear in voids gone by Finds none in drawing to the shadows nigh, Puts on his faith as in stout armor girt, And as a traveler goes. From inn to inn -- what matters how or why? An inn can have no long-abiding tie. When signalled one old lodging to desert, The reasoned tenant, undismayed, unhurt, Scans the new road ahead with curious eye, And as a traveler -- goes. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RICHARD, WHAT'S THAT NOISE? by RICHARD HOWARD LOOKING FOR THE GULF MOTEL by RICHARD BLANCO RIVERS INTO SEAS by LYNDA HULL DESTINATIONS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE ONE WHO WAS DIFFERENT by RANDALL JARRELL THE CONFESSION OF ST.
