LIFE'S AUTUMN, by MRS. S. W. RUSSELL First Line: In spring the trees were fresh-a dainty green Last Line: To seek the infinite the while we live. Subject(s): Autumn; Life; Life Change Events; Longing; Nature; Seasons; Fall | |||
In spring the trees were fresha dainty green. By summer sun, in deeper hues arrayed, Their full-leafed branches cast a restful shade; Later were autumn's gorgeous colors seen. But glories fade; the frost and wind too keen, Have loosed the leaves to twirl and fall and made The branches bare. To usour call delayed, Our treasures lost, our days seem cold and mean. The summer gone we turn to indoor fires. So in life's autumn, with our best years spent, We long for purer joys than earth can give; We find less pleasure in the old desires; We turn for deeper, higher soul content To seek the infinite the while we live. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OUR AUTUMN by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN AN AUTUMN JOY by GEORGE ARNOLD A LEAF FALLS by MARION LOUISE BLISS THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD A LETTER IN OCTOBER by TED KOOSER AUTUMN EVENING by DAVID LEHMAN EVERYTHING THAT ACTS IS ACTUAL by DENISE LEVERTOV |
