Hop wid de banjo,
An' glide wid de tune.
Open de door wide,
An' let in de moon.
Do yo' stuff, banjo,
Sing high, strum low.
Tell de whole plantation,
What dis niggah know.

Dey's hog head an' greens
In de pot a-bilin'.
I knows yo' kotch dat odah
Fum de ways yo' smilin'.
Wake up, banjo, tell wats new,
Dat de long-legged bird,
'Stead of leavin' one
Jes brung two.

Lindy tuck yo'self 'neath
Dem kivers an' res'.
Laudy, how dem pickanninies
Kin strum dat bres'.
I's laughin' 'cause
I's sho' am happy.
I's singin' 'cause
I's twice-cum pappy.
