NOSTALGIA, by WILLIAM JACOB SANDS First Line: As shipwrecked sailor on some sunny isle Last Line: That blessed hope he must forever cherish. Subject(s): Nostalgia | ||||||||
As shipwrecked sailor on some sunny isle Where spicy zephyrs waft the breath of spring, Where bell-toned songbirds Easter music sing, Where nature, always at her best, doth smile; Where dark-eyed maidens with a perfect grace Bind him with garlands of Aloa's charm, -- Their beauteous symmetry of neck and arm, With goddess-figure and with angel-face May soothe him for a day -- as night draws near And moonlight silvers every dancing wave, He sighs for rest 'neath Yarmouth's pines so brave, To feel once more in his -- that hand so dear. Though years may intervene, yet cannot perish That blessed hope he must forever cherish. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BELL FROM EUROPE by WELDON KEES THE STONE TABLE by GALWAY KINNELL LETTER TO MAXINE SULLIVAN by HAYDEN CARRUTH HANGING THE BLUE NUNS; FOR WARREN CARRIER by MADELINE DEFREES OF POLITICS, & ART by NORMAN DUBIE MY SISTER LIKED THE POSTCARD OF SNOW by ANSELM HOLLO THE PLAYER PIANO by RANDALL JARRELL BEARERS OF HONEY BASKETS by WILLIAM JACOB SANDS |
