First Line: With contrite heart and sacrifice of tears
Last Line: Hath made us whom life had parted, one in death.

With contrite heart and sacrifice of tears
I give thee back unto the Lord the Lender,
Star of my life, quintessence of the splendour,
Of Lucifer and all his shining peers.
The shadow of returning night uprears
Its veil athwart thy face, serene and tender.
O lift me to thy self through this surrender
Where, hid from earth, thou shinest in the spheres.
The fire of love its proper ashes smother
When hearts are still and lips without a breath,
The light of love lives on, nor suffers wrong.
Though hell and heaven part us from each other
The might of love immortal and of song
Hath made us whom life had parted, one in death.
