Being raised to the purple gave me an itching foot, I constantly travelled over the whole world attending conferences of world-wide significance. A polished man of the world, I brought culture with a capital C to my provincial friends at home. Some said my Diocese suffered by my absence, But I doubt now as then that the presence of my apostolic brethren in their respective sees, Benefitted them as much as my absence did mine. I was on my way to Cairo to promote a World Day of Prayer for those of every creed and faith When my vessel sank in the Indian Ocean. I gathered those aboard about me And as the ship went down I was praying with Mohammedans, Buddhists, Confucianists, Christians, and an Atheist. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RICHARD, WHAT'S THAT NOISE? by RICHARD HOWARD LOOKING FOR THE GULF MOTEL by RICHARD BLANCO RIVERS INTO SEAS by LYNDA HULL DESTINATIONS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE ONE WHO WAS DIFFERENT by RANDALL JARRELL THE CONFESSION OF ST.
