RESURRECTION, by
First Line: When songsters were carolling matins betimes
Last Line: Of the spring.
Subject(s): Miracles; Nature; Seasons; Spring; Winter

When songsters were carolling matins betimes,
And the South-wind came whispering hope and cheer
To the naked trees and shivering shrubs
And to plump little seeds fain bursting to grow,
I walked in my garden exploring, expectant,—
In quest of the ever-eternal green;
And Lo! I found the lush earth palpitant
In Life's recurring miracle;
From transitory death and murkiness
Of lingering Winter's frost-bound nether-world
Had come once more the glorious resurrection
Of the spring.
