LIFE, by ALEXANDER R. SCHOOLER First Line: Life has three parts to its day Last Line: Our time is out, our race is run. Subject(s): Day; Time | ||||||||
Life has three parts to its day, Three steps before we go away. It has its morning, noon and night; Yes, morning, noon -- and then twilight. Its morning is the golden dawn, And scampers like the fleeting fawn; With it our fondest hopes arise, Our ambitions mount to the skies. Then comes the noonday of our lives, The time that mortals all should prize; If mark we make, we make it then, Or else we say what might have been. At last our night begins to fall, It falls on one, it falls on all Success or failure, our day is done; Our time is out, our race is run. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ELEVEN EYES: FINAL SECTION by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: COME OCTOBER by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: HOME by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: TIME IS FILLED by LYN HEJINIAN SLOWLY: I FREQUENTLY SLOWLY WISH by LYN HEJINIAN ALL THE DIFFICULT HOURS AND MINUTES by JANE HIRSHFIELD A DAY IS VAST by JANE HIRSHFIELD FROM THIS HEIGHT by TONY HOAGLAND RAIN MUSIC by JOSEPH SEAMON COTTER JR. |
