WINTER: TEXAS PLAINS, by HOLLIS WILLIAM SCHREIBER First Line: This night Last Line: And the great loneliness seems strangely like a friend. Alternate Author Name(s): Schreiber, H. W. Subject(s): Solitude; Winter; Loneliness | ||||||||
This night The cold is as sharp as the point of a yucca blade, And the snow lies like a lasting death upon the land. Only the soft tread of a coyote scars the vastness of white. But high in the dark heavens, Through the blackness of a thousand nights, A few brave stars shine down in knowing mercy, And the great loneliness seems strangely like a friend. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV IN A VACANT HOUSE by PHILIP LEVINE SUNDAY ALONE IN A FIFTH FLOOR APARTMENT, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SILENCE LIKE COOL SAND by PAT MORA THE HONEY BEAR by EILEEN MYLES MAY WALTERS by HOLLIS WILLIAM SCHREIBER |
