MY MOUNTAIN HOME, by MARJORIE A. SCHRIER First Line: The snow covered mountain in the distance Last Line: For that dear old home high on the mountain side. Subject(s): Memory; Sensibility; Youth | ||||||||
The snow covered mountain in the distance Brings memories of my home so far away; Where often round the fireside we gathered At the closing of a frosty winter's day. It was mother's voice that led us in the singing, While sister played the organ sweet and low; As our childish voices blended with the music In singing songs from out the long ago. 'Twas not many years before we all were parted Each one to travel on his chosen way; Some chose the quiet of the stately mountains But I, the city's life that seemed so free and gay. But so often in the city I grow restless And in the park I wander to and fro; The lights shine dimly on the water Reminding me of moonlight on the snow. As colors of a fading winter's sunset Still linger in the sky at eventide, To my heart there comes a tender cry and longing For that dear old home high on the mountain side. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN THE LIGHT by MARJORIE A.
