GARDEN SYMPHONY, by HAZEL FRYE SCHWENTKER First Line: My mother's garden brings to me Last Line: Of flower-misted summertime. Subject(s): Gardens & Gardening; Mothers; Summer | ||||||||
My mother's garden brings to me A flower-misted symphony Of delicately scented rhyme, The fluted airs of summertime. Her irises, at break of day, Unfurl an iridescent lay; The water-lily's velvet note Salutes the morning sun by rote. A miniature cadenza swells From choirs of faintly scented bells; And echo voices softly croon The gay antiphonals of June. A sudden, light, recurrent strain; The allegretto of the rain, That draws each fainting blossom up And leaves a kiss in every cup. The dreaming larkspurs bend and sway, But summer breezes have their way, And mignonette and passion-flower Must join the scherzo for an hour. Allegro: stars again renew The cooling silences of dew, And moonlight fancies close the rhyme Of flower-misted summertime. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE ADVANCE OF SUMMER by MARY KINZIE THE SUMMER IMAGE by LEONIE ADAMS CANOEBIAL BLISS by JOSEPH ASHBY-STERRY THE END OF SUMMER by HENRY MEADE BLAND THE FARMER'S BOY: SUMMER by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD SONNET: 14.
