Subject(s): Goddesses & Gods; Mythology; Wind

I am a god of winds that are!
I sally forth through gates ajar—
My mad, wild hounds will run and leap;
They scatter leaves like frightened sheep,
While I ride in my cloud-capped car.

I come from icy wastes afar
That gleam beneath a polar star—
I do not sow—I only reap,
I am a god!

I gather power to tear and mar,
Then leave a lasting, wicked scar;
I scuttle down a craggy steep,
High mountain and broad prairie sweep;
Armed with my flashing scimitar.
I am a god!

—S. D. STATE FAIR, SECOND PRIZE. 1932
