SOARINGS, by ALICE RAYMOND SCUDDER First Line: All feathered flight pursues a silent path Last Line: To greet eternity's unfolding wings! Subject(s): Flight; Flying | ||||||||
All feathered flight pursues a silent path To reach the beckoning goals, the sky, the earth -- And quietness prevails as aftermath. In contrast, man a-wing in aerobirth All noisily proclaims his master feat -- Creative courage overleaping bounds -- And rhythmic echoes pulse to motors' beat. Imagination's eager flight impounds The glowing visions gleaned at a starry height; The heart alone, inspired by love, attains The zenith through a sacrifice alight. Summation comes abandoning life's chains: In superflight the soul, exultant, sings To greet eternity's unfolding wings! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SOMETHING CHILDISH, BUT VERY NATURAL; WRITTEN IN GERMANY by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE NIGHT SONG OF THE PERSONAL SHADOW by GYORGY PETRI THE HAWAIIAN FLIGHT SQUADRON by CHARLOTTE LOUISE BERTLESEN INSPIRATION by GRACE HOLBROOK BLOOD MONHEGAN GULLS by RICHARD EUGENE BURTON TO THE POOR by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD ON THE ROAD TO CHORRERA by ARLO BATES THE NIGHTINGALE; A CONVERSATION POEM by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE |
