IN MARY'S MONTH; TO MY YOUNGER SISTER ON HER BIRTHDAY, by R. A. ERIC SHEPHERD First Line: In mary's month, in mary's month Last Line: As first sweets of the spring. Subject(s): Birthdays; Oxford University; Sisters | ||||||||
IN Mary's month, in Mary's month, When the petals whitest blow, Because our Queen and Mother Doth chiefly love them so, In the month of apple-blossom, And of the child-eyed morn, In the blithe young days the child I praise And dearly love was born! It is not of a sweetheart (Or not in this world's wise) I sing, but of my sister, Her strong and pitying eyes. I would not be her critic (As brothers mostly be) But the singer of her sweetness, That shines so bright on me. In Mary's month, in Mary's month, When the petals whitest blow, Because Our Blissful Lady Doth chiefly love them so, When Mary's shrines are lovely, And choirs to Mary sing, She came to be ours with the sweet may-flowers As first sweets of the Spring. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HYMN FOR LANIE POO by AMIRI BARAKA CALMING KALI by LUCILLE CLIFTON FAR MEMORY: 1.
