FLIGHT OF THE WESTWIND, by NELLIE M. SHEVLIN First Line: Smooth as the course of an arrow Last Line: Melting into sunset's glow. Subject(s): Wind | ||||||||
Smooth as the course of an arrow, From the practised red man's bow; Graceful as flight of seagull, Where the waters ebb and flow; And the highway's silver ribbon Leads to ocean's foamy gate -- Glides the "Westwind" -- rich, luxurious, With its precious human freight. On it moves, a glint of sunshine, Where the forest trails once lay; And the Indian Brave and maiden Trod the lone path to the bay; Lo! The forest trails have widened, And the maiden breathes a sigh; As she whispers to her warrior: "Hark! ... The Westwind passes by." Now the footpath is a highway And the chieftain and his bride Ride along through fringe of fir trees, Far, far up the mountain side; Swifter than the flight of eagle, Or the timid forest doe, Moves the Westwind with the breezes, Melting into sunset's glow. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE WIND by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN LEAF LITTER ON ROCK FACE by HEATHER MCHUGH RESIDENTIAL AREA by JOSEPHINE MILES THE DAY THE WINDS by JOSEPHINE MILES VARIATIONS: 12 by CONRAD AIKEN OH IT'S PRETTY WINDY OUTSIDE by LARRY EIGNER |
