TWO SONGS FOR AN ACCESSION DAY TILE: 2, by PHILIP SIDNEY Poet's Biography First Line: Sing, neighbours, sing; hear you not say Last Line: Good lord, deliver us. | ||||||||
Sing, neighbours, sing; hear you not say This Sabbath day A Sabbath is reputed Of such a royal saint As all saints else confuted Is love without constraint? Let such a saint be praised Which so her worth hath raised: From him that would not thus Good Lord, deliver us. Sound up your pipes, do you not see That yond is she, Even she that most respecteth The faithful loving minds, And no one thought rejecteth That upon honour binds. Let such a saint be praised Which so her worth hath raised: From him that would not thus Good Lord, deliver us. Show forth your joy, let mourning stay; This is her day! Her day, on which she entered, When with her entered Peace, Which she hath not adventured But kept for our increase. Let such a saint be praised Which so her worth hath raised: From him that would not thus Good Lord, deliver us. All joy is full, like for no mo; Let sorrow go! Let sorrow go despised And mirth be made a queen, The heavens highly praised That we this day have seen. Let such a saint be praised Which so her worth hath raised: From him that would not thus Good Lord, deliver us. | Other Poems of Interest...ARCADIA: THE BARGAIN by PHILIP SIDNEY ASTROPHEL AND STELLA: 1 by PHILIP SIDNEY ASTROPHEL AND STELLA: 109 by PHILIP SIDNEY ASTROPHEL AND STELLA: 110 by PHILIP SIDNEY ASTROPHEL AND STELLA: 14 by PHILIP SIDNEY ASTROPHEL AND STELLA: 20 by PHILIP SIDNEY ASTROPHEL AND STELLA: 24 by PHILIP SIDNEY ASTROPHEL AND STELLA: 25 by PHILIP SIDNEY ASTROPHEL AND STELLA: 31 by PHILIP SIDNEY ASTROPHEL AND STELLA: 32 by PHILIP SIDNEY |
