SINGING PINES, by GRACE CAROLINE SISON First Line: The autumn winds are calling me to leave my cares today Last Line: A harmony of minor mode, a melody divine? Subject(s): Autumn; Seasons; Wind; Fall | ||||||||
The autumn winds are calling me to leave my cares today; To answer them and follow them far up the hill away, Where I can listen to their songs of even rhythmic score They sing within the pine tree grove I've visited before. I'll hasten to their temple where the pews are brown and sear; I'll breathe the fragrant incense that's blown from altars near; I'll look from out the windows where the sky is blue and fair And listen to the organ roll its music on the air. But why are tunes so mournful they always sing to me? Are voices ever wailing in this temple that I see? Or is the song of nature when sung by forest pine A harmony of minor mode, a melody divine? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OUR AUTUMN by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN AN AUTUMN JOY by GEORGE ARNOLD A LEAF FALLS by MARION LOUISE BLISS THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD A LETTER IN OCTOBER by TED KOOSER AUTUMN EVENING by DAVID LEHMAN EVERYTHING THAT ACTS IS ACTUAL by DENISE LEVERTOV AN AUTUMN MOOD by GRACE CAROLINE SISON |
