A prince of music with a builder's art, A wondrous man of mystery! To life he gave a legacy apart And waked the world to majesty. How rich, how deep his soul's propelling power, As list'ning souls mount to the sky; Prophetic, happy visions fill the hour, Resplendent in a maze they lie. Though lost to him was every sound of earth, From thund'rous force to breathless speech, There lived within a voice of finer worth That knew the cadences of each. Too soon a silence deep o'ershadowed all, But still he dreamed and sang his song, And, trusting trod a lonely hall, In silent solitude grew strong. He's left to earth a legacy sublime, An art that everyone might crave, A boon to ages in the files of time, The notes and symphonies he gave. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LINER NOTES TO AN IMAGINARY PLAYLIST by TERRANCE HAYES VARIATIONS: 13 by CONRAD AIKEN BELIEVE, BELIEVE by BOB KAUFMAN ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN MUSIC by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES THE POWER OF MUSIC by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES GOOD FRIDAY by LUCY H.
