GAJO FATHER, by AMEY SMYTH First Line: Because he chose to live within Last Line: Or say what I shall need? | ||||||||
Because he chose to live within The walls of dear familiar things, Must I forget the hurricane, The ecstasy of soaring wings? Because he never heard its call, Must I forswear the hunter's horn, And stop my ears and blind my eyes To all he has not borne? Perchance he dreamed the devious ways Which I pursue so ardently, But choosing home, his wings were bound, And he bequeathed his dreams to me! I am his gypsy-hearted child, Mixed somehow with a foreign breed; How can he know the moods I feel, Or say what I shall need? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PRAYER TO THE SPIRIT OF AUTUMN by AMEY SMYTH SEVEN TWILIGHTS: 5 by CONRAD AIKEN THE CALL TO THE COLORS by ARTHUR GUITERMAN IN MEMORIAM (EASTER 1915) by PHILIP EDWARD THOMAS AT MAGNOLIA CEMETERY by HENRY TIMROD SPANISH WINGS: A LEAF FROM A LOG BOOK by H.
