EPITAPH, by GRACE SOUTH First Line: Close-lipped was I, and no man called me friend Last Line: And see how friendly I have grown with earth. Subject(s): Epitaphs | ||||||||
Close-lipped was I, and no man called me friend. I lived from here to where the willows end. Day was day, and I was glad for strength. I never knew the why for season's length. Years measured swift upon my cottonwood. Man and beast knew one roof strong and good. Step nearer, you who wonder at my worth And see how friendly I have grown with earth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: RICHARD BONE by EDGAR LEE MASTERS AN EPITAPH, INTENDED FOR HIMSELF by JAMES BEATTIE EPITAPH: IN OBITUM M.S.
