They told me when a wondering child,
Could I achieve a swift-winged flight
To some tree's sunlit pinnacle,
The heavens would open to my sight.
My childish faith, long since destroyed,
Evoked a dream of greater worth;
For now I know who plants a tree
Brings shining visions down to earth.
